I spent 10 days in Mallorca this summer. It wasn’t actually a travel, more like a vacation. I was visiting my sister, who lives there part time and I have to say, that I totally understand her desicion!
It was my second visit, but it was quite different from the first one. When I was there 6 years ago, my sis had one kid and was pregnant with the second one. I had none. We were driving through the island a lot, I was having fun with the kiting for couple days and I did yoga at the beach. Well, this time 😀 She has two kids and I have two as well. My hands were always full and I did 2 minuts of yoga, I think. These 10 days flew by like nothing! But I’m recommending Mallorca as a perfect european summer destination.
1. Go to the beach
The little town of Sa Coma, where they have their nice little hause with lemon and orange trees in their backyard, is ideal vacation destination. The beach was nice and even if you don’t want to rent a sunbeds and umbreala, there is always enough space for your towel by the sea. I just loved the promenade by the beach. And I recomend a walk early in the evening and take tuns of pictures, as the light was just perfect!
Sa Coma is located in the east of the island. So it’s quite difficult to find shades during the day. But quick swim in the morning, than spending time by the pool and beach time in the afternoon, maybe with a little beachtennis sounds like a perfect day to me.
2. Go aroud the island
Our time was pretty layed back. With the kids always running around, little princess busy exploring the world, me and my sis managing lunches and snacs and all. But you can make a whole adventure trip around this island. With kiting or surfing, especially in the north. If you wanna do some sightseeing, I recomend choosing pre- or afterseason. As the July and August are very hot months. But if you come in spring or autumn, go to Palma and enjoy it without turists. Go to lovely Porto Cristo. Do some hikes or a horsebackriding.
3. Eat local
And eat! Please! Go to the market and get some peaches. They were amazing! And tomatos. They tasted like a heaven. And mangos. They don’t plant them there, but we had ones from mainland, Malaga and they were yummy. Later this year I had to go check them directly to Malaga. And this trip had it all.
4. Enjoy nice reastaurants
We were eating mostly at home, because my sis is a great cook, but we still went to two restaurants for lunch. One was in S’illot, just at the beach, with the seaview terrace and very good seafood. Reastaurant Es Mollet de S’illot. We also had a brunch there on our last day. Lovely acai bowl and croisans. And the other one was a bit more fancy. It was Sa Punta in Son Severa. This one belongs to Rafael Nadal. So you can imagine, that it’s no low cost. The meal was of course very nice. We had Tártaro de atún rojo, Tortilla de patata trufada and Lubina a la sal as a main course.
Mallorca can sound like a cheezy package holiday destination. But it cannot be more wrong! You can chill, you can roadtrip, you can adventure. You choose.
Enjoy the sun!
Adios!
